Hi, I'm Elyse. I created this website to publish content related to sociology, anthropology, culture, and economics. And because I enjoy traveling and bringing people together, I will also post content related to travel.

I'm originally from Kansas City, but I moved to Boston in 2019 with my partner Björn after living in Berlin for a short period while I wrote my master's thesis.

I have a master's degree in sociology with an emphasis in cultural anthropology and economics. It's my passion to understand people, cultures, and find ways to create better and more meaningful relationships. I wrote my master's degree on trust and its relationship to perceptions of inequality and presented some of my work at the American Sociological Association conference in Montréal in 2017.

Outside of my formal education, I have worked in the finance industry for over six years. I felt very passionate at a young age about helping other people with their finances, which got me into finance in the first place. And through the years, I have worked with various nonprofits to help educate children on finance and worked with literacy projects in Kansas City.

Recently, I've started a project with a mission to create a better organizational culture within companies. In my nearly two decades of working in corporate America, I continue to see ways we could do things better. With changes since the pandemic, many others are starting to see this too. This became evident during what has been called The Great Resignation.

With more and more businesses forming, my goal is to help with the inevitable yet positive changes related to organizational culture. In the years to come, I believe we will begin to see drastic shifts in the way organizations are structured and the way they interact with their employees, customers, shareholders, and society as a whole.

In addition to the above project, I have launched this website in order to share more content beyond the organizational culture focus. One goal of this website is to create content that will bridge some of the increasingly blatant educational gaps regarding minorities, cultures, subcultures, and amongst the wealthy and poor.

If you're interested in content related to society, culture, and travel, follow me on your preferred platform. And if you have any ideas about content, how we could do things better in general as a society, or simply general feedback, I invite you to contact me any time through the contact page.

Thanks for taking some of your time to get to know me. I hope I get to know you better, too.

Best,

a little more about the site

What is the purpose of this site and your content?

I wanted to have a space to discuss sociology, culture, and travel and create content related to these themes. I have been working on a project related to organizational culture, but this project is narrowly focused for a reason. Instead of creating a separate brand, I decided to use my own name as a personal brand to discuss the things I'm passionate about.

The idea is to create a space on the internet to discuss society and culture to bring people together of all different backgrounds to support one another through travel-focused content. My content focuses on culture and ways to support the local community while traveling. Additionally, supporting local businesses will be an essential aspect of my content.

I hope that my work will bring people together, as it's clear the world is becoming increasingly polarized.

How often will content be published?
As of right now, there isn't a set schedule, but I have committed to creating a new series or adding to a current series at least once per quarter.

Where is content published?

Content is published on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and my blog. I use YouTube for longer travel-related videos. Instagram and TikTok are used to post short videos (less than three minutes) that focus on specific destinations within the series. My website is primarily used to host a blog; the blog will cover the history, landscape, climate, and culture of an area (e.g., city, country, or island). Additionally, the blog will have a longer, written-version of the videos found on YouTube.

What is meant by publishing in a "series"?

The idea is to commit to a subject and publish multiple pieces of content related to that subject before moving on to the next subject. The number of posts within a series will vary. And as the site and content evolves, I could always return to a subject.

Why is Hawaii the first series?

The inspiration for creating society, culture, and travel content hit me while I was in Hawaii in August 2021. This was also around a time of increasing anti-Asian sentiment in the United States. Thus, Big Island as the first series was born.

What is meant by travel, society, and culture content?

Travel content refers to travel guides and travel tips, but this content will include cultural information and ways for tourists to support the local community. Culture content refers to certain aspects uniquely found within a group. For example, a series on organizational culture could touch on mission statements or company values. The category of society involves content related to the field of sociology and ways to connect current events to the field of sociology.

What is the project for organizational culture?

It is likely that I will publish content related to organizational culture on this site and related social media, but my project on organizational culture is separate. If you're interested, check out www.getculturecapital.com.
